On
19th March 2007, 50 years to the day when
the stills stopped, distillation commenced again in
Kilbeggan. The event was to mark the 250th
anniversary of the distillery (1757 – 2007).
Cooley Distillery are using an ancient pot still,
last used in the 19th century, and it has
revived a traditional style of distillation not seen
in Ireland for many years.
Today, our visitors can see and smell
the whiskey being distilled, just like it was in the
old days – a real treat for the senses!

Whisky Magazine, the authority on all things
Whisk(e)y, recently announced the prize-winners in
their annual Icons of Whiskey awards ceremony. We
are delighted to announce that Locke’s Distillery
Museum topped the category of ‘Visitor Attraction of
the Year’, beating the Old Jameson Distillery,
Dublin and the Old Bushmills Distillery, Co. Antrim.
It
was a great honour for the Museum to win such an
award and it is a testament to all those involved in
running the tourist attraction. |
